| PARIS In the past years, Paris which is the world’s most visited city has become the world’s most gay city as well and the first capital to elect an openly gay mayor in March 2001. Paris has now one of the biggest gay scenes in Europe with over 300 gay places to go out to. A big part of them are concentrated in the historic heart of the town called Le Marais. MADRID Madrid is the capital and largest city in Spain, as well as in the province and the autonomous community of the same name. It is located on the river Manzanares in the center of the country. The gay area, Chueca, is in the old quarter at the center of Madrid. Hundreds of gay-oriented businesses, including bars, coffee- houses, restaurants, design shops, clubs, and clothiers are available for the intrepid explorer. Gay and straight people intermingle comfortably, and same-sex kissing and handholding is a common site. BARCELONA Barcelona's gay scene is lively and stylish but remember in Spain you don't go out to eat until 10pm, the bars don't get going until midnight and the discos don't even open until 3am, so get some sleep in before you go out because you will be out all night drooling over those gorgeous Catalonian Bears. The main gay area in Barcelona is called L'Eixample or Gayxample, but let's start at the beginning. The beginning being the street everyone first heads for in Barcelona - Las Ramblas. It runs from the port, to the center of town, stopping just a few blocks short of the gay village. |
